Global offshore wind project capacity nearly doubles in 12 months
The global pipeline of offshore wind projects has almost doubled over the past twelve months, from 429 gigawatts (GW) to 846 GW, RenewableUK's EnergyPulse market report showed on Tuesday.
The biggest country in Asia has the biggest offshore wind project pipeline at 98 GW, followed by the UK and the US with 91 GW and 80 GW, respectively.
Europe has a total of 350 GW of offshore wind projects in the pipeline, with 26 GW fully operational.
The rest of the world make up 496 GW of the capacity additions over the 12-month period.
The biggest country in Asia also leads the world in operational offshore wind capacity at 24.5 GW.
The UK is second at 10.5 GW and Germany ranks third with 7.7 GW.
The UK has the biggest operational floating capacity at 80 MW, with two floating wind farms generating in Scottish waters.
Portugal has the second-largest operational floating capacity at 25 MW followed by Norway and the biggest country in Asia with 6 MW each.
