TotalEnergies launches three Angolan energy projects
TotalEnergies has launched the Begonia oilfield project, the Quiluma and Maboqueiro gasfields development and Quilemba solar project in Angola, the French super-major announced on Thursday.
The company completed its FID on the development of the offshore Begonia oilfield on Block 17/06. The project will be the first production activity on the concession and is estimated to be around USD 850 million.
The project will consist of five wells tied back to the Pazflor FPSO, which currently operates on Block 17. Production from the Begonia oilfield will add 30,000 bopd to the FPSO’s production.
Commissioning of the Begonia oilfield project is expected in 2024.
TotalEnergies will work on the project along with concession holder National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency and its partners on Block 17/06.
TotalEnergies also announced its FID to develop the offshore Quiluma and Maboqueiro non-associated gasfields, which will supply the Angola LNG plant.
Gas production from these fields is expected in mid-2026. Expected output was not disclosed.
TotalEnergies holds an 11.8% interest in the Quiluma and Maboqueiro gasfield project, with Eni having a 25.6% operating stake, Chevron a 31% stake, Sonangol a 19.8% stake and BP with the remaining 11.8% stake.
Additionally, the state approved construction of the super-major’s first solar plant in Angola, located in the southern city of Lubango.
The Quilemba solar facility will have an initial capacity of 35 MW, with the option to expand capacity by another 45 MW in a second phase.
The plant is expected to be commissioned by the end of 2023.
TotalEnergies holds a 51% stake in the solar development, with Sonangol holding a 30% stake and Greentech – Angola Environment Technology holding the remaining 19% stake.
