BP Selects KBR As Its Hydrogen Portfolio Contractor
BP has picked science, technology and engineering solutions provider KBR as its primary integrated project management contractor across its global hydrogen project portfolio.
KBR said it will utilize the collaborative work practices and experience of its Integrated Project Management Team (IPMT). The IPMT will provide services required for safe, effective and high-quality project delivery, including performance management of individual projects and relevant subcontractors, it added.
The contract scope includes joint contribution to front-end, optimization and execution project phases as well as management support through construction, commissioning and startup for BP’s global hydrogen projects, KBR said in its statement, adding that the contract will commence under the existing global agreement with BP.
“We are delighted to have been selected to play a part in BP’s strategic energy transition program and to support their sustainable growth plans in the hydrogen sector,” said Jay Ibrahim, president of KBR’s Sustainable Technology Solutions business.
“This contract award aligns with KBR’s mission of providing our customers with differentiated, sustainable solutions that are enabling the energy transition. KBR is proud of its long-standing relationship with BP. By leveraging that relationship and our premier hydrogen domain expertise, we will continue to collaboratively deliver successful projects that support their business objectives,” he added.
Hydrogen is one of BP’s five energy transition growth engines, BP noted in a statement posted on its website in December last year. Globally, BP is working on a significant and growing portfolio of options for the development of green and blue hydrogen projects in advantaged markets worldwide, including potential developments in the UK, Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Middle East, U.S. and Australia, it added.
By 2030, BP aims to produce between 0.5 and 0.7 million tons per annum of primarily green hydrogen, while selectively pursuing blue hydrogen opportunities, BP’s site states. To achieve this, the company is accessing new segments, such as the mobility and industrial sectors – including the decarbonization of its own refineries, it adds.
